2019 saw the second edition of the globally recognised, official Comic Con in Johannesburg. This year it was hosted at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand and filled all 5 halls. The convention also happens to be where VS Gaming hosts their Master’s League tournament for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive as well as Dota 2. The event spanned over 4 days, from 21 to 24 September, with the first 2 days consisting of the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament and the final 2 days the Dota 2 tournament.
Huski Productions chose Bad Weather to once again cover the stage design, production and project management, as well as cameras, broadcast and livestream. This marked one of the first productions where we got to use our Black Magic Design broadcast rack and cameras, which handled all video control and switching.
The stage consisted of various custom set elements, in order to accommodate two teams of 5 players on either side. This year the design did away with closed team booths, which allowed for a much more personal and heartfelt interaction between the audience and players.
We’re really proud of all of the improvements made after last year’s event and looking forward to see where our interest in esports and live tournaments will take us.
